Why is Iraq in the News ? Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims

This is Maliki. He is the Prime Minister of Iraq. He is a Shiite Muslim. There are three groups of people who live in Iraq. SunniShiite & Kurds

The Kurds are group in Iraq who live in the mountains. They are located in this region and are the United States’ friends in this country. Find out more about these people in Iraq.

ISIS just invaded Iraq in June 2014 from Syria. ISIS means: Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. (ISIS), They are Sunni Muslims. They are a terrorist group more violent than Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda group.

There are many Sunni Muslims in Iraq. Sunni Muslims are not all terrorist. Sunni Muslims in Iraq have not been treated well by Shiite Prime Minster Maliki so they are angry. Sunni Muslims in Iraq have not been treated well by Shiite Prime Minster Maliki so they are angry. They don’t like ISIS, but they don’t like Maliki either.

So ISIS might convince other Sunni groups in Iraq to join in the fight.!

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is the leader of ISIS. In 2005, Baghdadi was arrested by U.S. forces and placed in an American-run detention facility in Iraq, Camp Bucca. The military did not consider him particularly dangerous, and the Americans let him go when the camp closed in As he left, he reportedly told guards, “I’ll see you guys in New York.” The U.S. guards did not consider his parting words a threat.

President Obama released 5 top terrorists in June 2014 from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Will these five Taliban leaders join the battlefield again and will we live to regret this decision too ? For Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl who walked off his post in Afghanistan and was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan and held for almost five years a prisoner. Many Americans didn’t like this trade.

On July 6,2014 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made his first public appearance. He proclaimed himself the head of a caliphate state and demanded that all Muslims around the world pledge allegiance to him. He has called on Muslims to come to the territory his group has seized to help build an Islamic state, declaring: 'The earth is Allah's.' A caliphate is an Islamic state led by a supreme religious and political leader.
