NC R EAD TO A CHIEVE L AW AS IT PERTAINS TO R EADING C AMP “Reading camp means an additional educational program (72 hours) outside of the instructional calendar provided by the local school administrative unit to (i) any third grade student who does not demonstrate reading proficiency and (ii) any first or second grade student who demonstrates reading comprehension below grade level as identified through administration of formative and diagnostic assessments in accordance with G.S. 115C-83.6.”

1 ST AND 2 ND G RADERS The formative and diagnostic assessment reference above is mCLASS Reading 3D, according to State Board Policy. Identification will be based on EOY TRC results. 1 st grade students who are at Level I or below 2 nd grade students who are at Level L or below.

3 RD G RADERS Identified third grade students will be invited to attend Read to Achieve camp. Attendance is optional and is decided by the parents. The identification of these students as defined by legislation is, any third grade student who does not demonstrate reading proficiency. Students with a good cause exemption who do not demonstrate proficiency on the Reading EOG are invited to camp.
