Social Media – The Evolution of Communication Technology

My mother, whom was born during the Baby Boomers Generation, told me that when she was a little child, at my grandparents home it only was one radio where all the family used to listen the news, the adverts, music, etc.

When my mum was around 12 or 14 years old, my grandparents bought their first television, which it was in black and white and it only had two channels. At that time the programmes on TV used to finish at midnight. They didn’t have a telephone at home, so if they needed to get contact with any person they should go out to the street to a public telephone box to make the call.

I belong to the called Generation X and I have seen the progress in the communication area ever since I was a small girl. I remember that at my parents it was a colour TV which had a few channels as well as a VHS video. My parents had also a record- player with a tape-player machine incorporated on it and a fix telephone.

Approximately when I was 20 years old the communication technology started to develop a lot. Then I could listen the music on CDs or in a MP3 format, also the laptops used to be very usual at business and at home as well as the mobile telephones. Internet appeared by then and we could send asynchronies messages which reached the addressers in a few minutes, also the TV by cable was a revolution with lots and lots of channels …

Now during the known as the Generation Y everything has gone ever so fast. With the internet system we can receive all political, economical, or even the forecast information around the world only in a few minutes.

We can spread any news we are interested in, only in seconds. Internet gives us the opportunity to communicate instantaneously with other people, work from home, play to different games alone or with friends and it brings the social media to improve and progress very quickly from day to day. We can do courses of any type on line, look for any information we want and give our own point of view or send and receive photos in sites as facebook, twitter, you tube, etc. I normally use facebook and Twitter because they allow to communicate easily with my friends.

With all this improvement in communication, my daughters, whom they are 6 and 3 years old, all the children like them whom belong to Generation Z can play and use most of the latest technologies for communication such as mp4, tablets, smart phones, internet, etc. At these ages, my girls have got they own plasma TV in their room. So, I wonder …. What next?
