8. What Does St Meryl Do About eSafety?

9. Policy We have a robust policy which is reviewed and updated annually. It is accessible to parents via the website. It includes an acceptable use policy.

10. Training All staff receive e-safety training annually but it has a high priority throughout the year.

11. Education - Teaching about e-safety is embedded in all curriculum areas. Our planning formats have a section for e-safety so at the planning stage teachers have to think about any aspects of e-safety that will need to be addressed in any given lesson. - Children are taught how to stay safe, protect themselves from harm and how to take responsibility for their own and others’ safety. We use our ‘News and Views’ assemblies to address safeguarding issues such as e-safety. - An e-safety message is going to appear on every PC screen so it is the first thing that pupils see when they use these.

12. Rules to Remember 1. I will only use the system with my own username and password 2. I will only use computers for school work, unless my teacher has told me to use it for other reasons. 3. I will ask permission from my teacher before using the Internet. 4. If I am using email, I will only email people I know, or my teacher has approved. Any messages I send will be polite and responsible. 5. I will never give my personal details, such as my full name, home address and telephone number to anyone online. 6. I will report any unpleasant material or messages sent to me. I understand my report would be confidential and would help protect other pupils and myself. 7. I understand that my network space and internet activities could be monitored. 8. I know that if I break any of these rules I could lose the right to use the school network. I agree to all of the above.

13. Responding to e-safety incidents The headteacher keeps a log of any e- safety incidents and the action that was taken.

15. What can you do? Encourage the SMILE approach by talking to your children Use the parental control package on your browser ( IE, Chrome, Firefox) – Filtering inappropriate websites – Monitoring – will inform you of websites that your child is trying to access – Time limits – you can specify when and how long for. – Do not allow any personal details to be given out (for games always use a username) Treat a smart phone / smart TV / gaming console as a computer Keep use to a family area

16. Let them teach you! Build trust with your children by letting them show you how good they are – Why do they like a site? – What can they do on the site? – Who uses it amongst their friends? – Can you use it at school?
