L.Gatignon, IEFC Summary SPSC11412 PROPOSAL P349 This proposal was submitted on 29 April Several questions were answered already. The overall aim of the experiment is to measure the polarisation of antiprotons produced in proton proton collisons at an angle beyond S-wave scattering, i.e. at an angle > 55 mrad. The proposal is to use the T11 beam to select the antiprotons. The set-up is compact enough to fit on the upstream platform in T11. A novelty during the presentation was an optional LH 2 target. The volume is 0.5 liters and contacts have already been established with the satey unit. This needs to be followed up formally. P349 asks for a run just after the 2014 CLOUD run (agreed with CLOUD). The SPSC queried the capability to reject the background from interactions in the target, but the time resolution of the appratus is claimed sufficient to reduce this bkgd sufficiently. The SPSC received with interest a proposal to search for polarization effects in the antiproton production process, SPSC-P-349. The committee considers the physics case to be interesting and the proposal to be well prepared. The SPSC recommends the requested three weeks of beam time at the PS in 2014.

L.Gatignon, IEFC Summary SPSC11413

L.Gatignon, IEFC Summary SPSC11414 ACE The ACE measurement of the RBE requires detailed understanding of the input to FLUKA, including beam intensity, profile and position, beam source and beam divergence and in particular the detailed geometry and material description of the experimental set-up. A benchmarking of their MC description is required to validate the RBE measurements. They request a 36-hour run which is already provisionally scheduled (pending SPSC decision). The FLUKA version to be used has been clearly identified (by the FLUKA team). The Committee received with interest the request by the ACE Collaboration for beam time for a benchmark experiment in The Committee supports the request for 36 hours of beam to perform the experiment for a better understanding of the dose deposition of an antiproton beam in the ACE experimental setup. The Committee urges the ACE collaboration to proceed with the analysis of all data sets towards a combined RBE value for antiprotons using the most recent version of the F LUKA simulation programme together with detailed descriptions of the beam intensity, beam profile and the experimental apparatus. The SPSC is looking forward to review the results in its next meeting.

L.Gatignon, IEFC Summary SPSC11415 AWAKE AWAKE now prefers on-axis injection over side injection, as it is technically easier. The temperature uniformity of the Rb vapor source is confirmed. The ionising laser will be delivered in August this year, but the renovated lab space will be available only in October.
