STATESBORO HIGH SCHOOL WBL ORIENTATION

WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL) PLACEMENTS REPRESENT THE PINNACLE OF THE CAREER-RELATED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE. IT IS A PRIVILEGE THAT EVERY STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE. YOU WILL DEVELOP AND PRACTICE POSITIVE WORK- RELATED HABITS AND ATTITUDES. Purpose of the WBL Program

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE Maintain at least a C average in all classes Failing grade on report card results in probationary status until next grading period. If you fail any class for the semester, you will be dismissed from the WBL program for following semester. Student Expectations

ATTENDANCE POLICY SEE PAGE 5 If you are absent from school you should not go to work (unless prior permission is granted by WBL Coordinator). Hours logged on your work report for any day you have an unexcused absence from school will not be counted towards total hours worked and will lower your work report test grade. Student Expectations

YOU WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE WBL PROGRAM IF… 1. You lose your job and are unable to find another within 2 weeks. During that time your grade will be affected because you will not have hours to record on your work report. Reminder: If you lose your job, your WBL Coordinator must be notified within 24 hours. Or… 2. You fail a semester of any class. You will be removed from the program for the following semester. *If you fail a nine weeks you will be put on probation for the next nine weeks. If you are unable to pass for the semester, you will be removed from the program. Or… 3. You knowingly, falsely complete a work report. Examples include lying about hours worked and/or forging an employer’s signature. Dismissal from the WBL program

WORK REPORT See Appendix A (page 25) Due every 2 weeks Copies available in my room and can be printed from my website Grade Policy

A WBL STUDENT MUST WORK A MINIMUM OF 7.5 HOURS A WEEK FOR ONE BLOCK OF WBL RELEASE, A MINIMUM OF 15 HOURS A WEEK FOR TWO BLOCKS OF WBL RELEASE, AND A MINIMUM OF 22.5 HOURS A WEEK FOR 3 BLOCKS OF WBL RELEASE. In addition, more than ½ (or at least 51%) of these work hours must be during the school hours a student is released from school. Required Hours on Work Report

PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENTS All assignments completed during the year become a part of your portfolio and will be your mid-term and final. You may take your portfolio on job interviews, college interviews, etc. See Appendix B (page 26) – Student Portfolio Outline Note first semester assignment 8 and second semester assignment 7- Community Service All WBL students are required to complete at least 10 hours of community service during the year, 5 hours each semester. WORK PERMIT Work Permit Data Form – See Appendix C (Page 27) I must have a copy of your work permit on file if you are under 18 years of age Take completed form and birth certificate or drivers license to the Bulloch Co. Board of Education located at 150 Williams Road for permit Bring copy of permit to your WBL Coordinator- you may use the copier in my room DRIVER’S LICENSE Copy to your WBL Coordinator- You may use the copier in my room WBL FUNDRAISER We will have one fundraiser per semester. Funds will be used to purchase employer thank you gifts at the end of the year Additional Requirements

ALL ASSIGNMENTS/WORK REPORTS ARE DUE ON THE INDICATED DATES. TEN (10) POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EACH DAY ANY ASSIGNMENT/WORK REPORT IS LATE. AFTER ANY ASSIGNMENT/WORK REPORT IS MORE THAN 5 DAYS LATE, A 0 WILL BE ASSIGNED AS THE GRADE. IF THE ASSIGNMENT/WORK REPORT IS THEN TURNED IN ANY TIME AFTER THE 5TH DAY LATE, A 50 WILL BE ASSIGNED AS THE GRADE. Late Assignment Reminder
