Introduction to the Award All Wales Healthy Options Award is an award developed by a multi agency partnership to reward caterers that promote healthy eating. It has three levels – bronze, silver and gold The award is open to all types of catering establishments including cafes, takeaways, sandwich shops, hotels and staff restaurants that are “broadly compliant” in relation to food safety and food standards.

Aims of the Award Improve access to healthier food so the healthy choice is the easy choice Encourage caterers to think about healthier eating e.g. less salt, sugar and saturated fat Reward caterers who make it easier for customers to eat healthily when eating out Assist caterers in meeting the demand for healthier meals

Benefits to Business Public recognition for achieving the award Enhanced image as a responsible health conscious business Ability to satisfy growing demand for healthier choices Improved knowledge of healthier food and catering practices amongst staff Improved customer satisfaction and potential to increase turnover by introducing new customers Association with what we hope will be a widely recognised Welsh Healthy Options brand Motivated staff And its FREE!

What you can do Incorporate healthy catering principles to all aspects of your business. Promote the fact you sell healthier foods. Make the healthier choice the easy choice. Try adapting the best selling items. Think about your customers nutritional needs and sell products based on this.

Process Finding potential award achievers. Pack sent, information given. Appointment made with caterer – assessment takes approx 45 minute Scoring of assessment – Bronze, Silver or Gold Award Letter with Recommendations and Certificate. Conditions of award.
