Martin Luther King, Jr. used nonviolence to fight segregation. December 1, 1955 King became the leader of the Montgomery bus boycott August 28, 1963 King led the March on Washington March 21, 1965 King led thousands of protestors 50 miles from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama King met with Mohandas Gandhi, the inspiration for his nonviolence resistance 1959 King receives the Nobel Peace Prize for social change through nonviolence December 1964

Martin Luther King, Jr gave inspirational speeches. August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, DC at the conclusion of the March on Washington.

Martin Luther King, Jr. impacted the laws for equality. Civil Rights Act of This banned discrimination in employment and public accommodations based on "race, color, religion, or national origin". Voting Rights Act of This act restored and protected the right to vote. Immigration and Nationality Services Act of This allows immigration from groups other than those from the traditional European countries. Fair Housing Act of This banned housing discrimination for sales or rentals. Civil Rights Act of This banned discrimination in employment and public accommodations based on "race, color, religion, or national origin".
