The Women of 1916 Forgotten or Significant
The Role of Women in members of the 90 women who fought in 1916 were members of Cumann na mBan. Winifred Carney arrived at the GPO with her typewriter and revolver. Women such as Countess Markiwicz shot policemen and fired on British troops Margaret Skinnider a Scottish suffragette joined the rebels in to support Irish women achieving equality with men. In the GPO Pearse chose Elizabeth Farrell to present the surrender to the British troops.
