Research Paragraph Common Strengths Organization Selecting effective research Titles- lots of bonus points here MLA format

Research Paragraph Common Errors Know what you are trying to say…say it clearly double-check rubric/packet…take peer edit seriously Don’t copy sources word for word...more than TWO words without direct quotes around them is PLAGIARISM Need one quote and one paraphrase Superlatives- never, always, everyone, no one Lead- in is part of quote sentence. Analysis should be at least two sentences and it explains what the research is saying and how it proves your topic. Don’t bring up new ideas from research here, or just talk about topic in general. WC entries should match in-text citations

Common Error Comments R-O= run-on sentence Frag= fragment Tense shift= you are switching between talking about the events/characters in past and present tense…be consistent Sp= spelling Awk/wordy= revise phrasing and/or word choice, unclear ideas No contractions to start sentences: but, so No you, I, we, our No contractions

Research Paragraph Rewrite As I am concerned with your effort and learning the proper skills to write a paper, I am willing to let you submit a rewrite. Please note that this is A LOT of extra work for me. You can only improve your grade IF you follow the following steps and due dates: Read over the comments/errors on your paper. Set up a time to conference with me. I can meet with you 3 rd period, 8 th period, 40 min HR, or during an individual class activity (you are still responsible for that work). You must have your conference between May 1 and May 15. Rewrite your paper. You must fix ALL mistakes in order to receive credit. PROOFREAD! Submit your original paper with your new paper by Friday, May 16. You may only submit a rewrite if you’ve already had a conference. If you submit a thorough rewrite, you can receive up to a 90%.
