ORGAN SYSTEMS

ORGAN SYSTEMS: EQ: Can I name the body’s major organ systems, what organs they include and the systems’ functions?

INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM Organs: Skin, hair, and nails Function: Covers your body and protects the tissue underneath.

MUSCULAR SYSTEM Function: Works with the skeletal system to help you move. Organs: Skeletal Muscle- helps bones move Smooth Muscle- moves food Cardiac Muscle- pumps blood

ORGAN SYSTEMS: EQ: Can I name the body’s major organ systems, what organs they include and the systems’ functions?

SKELETAL SYSTEM Function: Provides a frame to support and protect your body parts Organs: bones, cartilage, and connective tissue

CARDIOVASCULAR/CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Function: Pumps blood through all of your blood vessels Organs: heart, blood, and blood vessels 3 kinds of blood vessels: 1. Arteries: takes blood away from your heart 2. Veins: takes blood to the heart 3. Capillaries: allows things to leave your blood and get to body cells

NERVOUS SYSTEM Function: Receives and sends electrical messages throughout your body Organs: brain, spinal cord, and nerves

ORGAN SYSTEMS: EQ: Can I name the body’s major organ systems, what organs they include and the systems’ functions?

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM Function: Takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide Organs: nose, throat and lungs

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM Function: Breaks down food you eat into nutrients that your body can absorb Organs: mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and liver
