Mexico has many administrative registers on economic units, and now we are working to standarize their content, in order to be able to take advantage of them. These are not complete at all, because many enterprises do not make their corresponding registers or report the changes that occur to them. ´ ´ LEGAL FRAMEWORK INEGI’s new autonomy led to changes in our statistical law. The new law of the National System of Statistical and Geographical Information establishes the creation of the National Directory of Economic Units as a mandate. The law gives INEGI the responsibility to develop, regulate and operate the Directory. INEGI will also coordinate all the institutions that will participate ─ with their administrative registers ─ in the directory’s development. The Directory of the Agricultural Census. 2.Assign a business statistical code (in spanish, Clave Estadística Empresarial, CLEE) to each economic unit. 3.After a process of homogenization of contents among the initial directory and the directories derived from other administrative registers, all directories will be matched to feedback the initial one. 4.A “continuous feedback” will be established. 1. The mobility of the establishments (births, deaths, changes) in Mexico is huge, mainly in the small establishments. More than half of them were created during the last five years according to the 2009 Economic Census. We estimate as well that about 9% of the establishments are born and disappear in a period of less than a year. SO, DIFFERENT UPDATING LEVELS

 The establishment is the observation unit. In the case of an enterprise with several establishments, DENUE presents all of the establishments that are part of it. The enterprise is the observation unit only in the cases of transportation, construction and financial services, hence DENUE presents the headquarters only.  Comprises all of the economic sectors except for agricultural and forestry activities, which are not incorporated for the time being.  Incorporates all of the country’s establishments, except for the small manufacturing, trade and services establishments found in rural locations. OBSERVATION UNIT, SECTORIAL COVERAGE, AND GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE
