Reflection on IR & Search Engines This week’s lesson on IR and search engines has been a nice supplement to what I already know. Since my undergrad, I have been taught about Boolean operators, but it was not until this semester that I actually cared enough to really learn them and remember what they did to help my search strategies. I really liked learning about the classes that Google offers for people to help them search their database better, considering I usually just type whatever is in my head and hope that Google knows what it is I am trying to find. I see these skills being very important to me not just during my graduate school work, but beyond that. Being able to find authoritative and accurate information is key to being an information/computer literate citizen. Even if I may not need to use this information in my career (which I doubt will be the case), it is nice to have it as an added skill.
