History - ASNIC ASNIC had ~ 16 recycling pickup locations around campus ASNIC funded employees: emptied these locations sorted the contents delivered them to Recycling Center off campus

History - County Before July 1 st 2012 – 3 large bins around campus  Grounds  Copy Center July 1 st – These bins were removed by the county

Campus Response October 1 st 2012 (Fall 2012 Semester) Personal box per desk 35 gallon cart per floor 9 Single Stream Recycling Containers

Results Eliminate 40-60% of the waste put into landfill Save an estimated $30,000 in landfill fees Moves responsibility for recycling from ASNIC to Facilities

Items Recycled Paper and Cardboard Plastic Containers Metal No Glass, Plastic Bags, Styrofoam, Batteries, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, Hazardous Waste, or Medical Waste

What can you do? The 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle  Put a single stream recycling program in place on your campus  Serve on a college sustainability committee  Host a recycle day
