 Hi I'm Taralyn. I am a new student at United Elementary. I originally came from Alliance Middle School. I think it was pretty weird coming from a middle school to an elementary school. When I told some of my friends and family that I am in elementary they thought I moved down a grade because of me moving from middle school to elementary. Some also thought it was comical. I like to help others and talk to people. I love to read and do math. I hope to meet new people this year.

I selected this journal entry because this is the only entry I had because of me moving here later in the year.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate Cry of Courage by Lee Roddy Road to Freedom by Lee Roddy M is for Magic by Neil Gaiman American Gods by Neil Gaiman

 I have grown in reading because I have read a lot. I have learned lots of different genres of books. My favorite place to read is in my room, outside in the nice weather, and where its quiet. My habits of reading was always adding words that weren’t there. The genres I enjoy reading are Mystery, Horror Fiction, and Historical Fiction.

 I have grown in writing because I write some of my own short stories. Back when I was in 3 rd grade I usually only wrote like 3 sentences. Now I write like 5 pages of paragraphs upon paragraphs. I like to write mysteries a lot of finding a “Lost Boy” or going on vacations and getting lost or things like that.

 I enjoy Math because it is a key to life as you solve the problems. I say this because its like you have to know how many eggs you would mix into cake batter to make a cake. I am really smart when it comes to Math. I solve the problems as if I would solve the problem for someone who has gotten bullied.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell Karana, Ramo, Ulape, and the rest of the tribe went to the Island. Chief Chowing got killed, which was Karana, Ramo, and Ulape’s father. Ramo got killed by the pack of wild dogs. Karana was stuck on the island by herself. She met new “friends” that were animals. Soon she met Tutok, an Aleut girl. When she left with her tribe Karana was upset. After 18 years of Karana being on the island, she was rescued. She soon went to a new home and died 3 weeks after because she was used to eating the food she killed and sacrificed her life to get. I enjoyed tis book because it was a surprising story.

 It think Ramo died from the wild dogs because he wanted to prove to Karana that he could be a chief and so he went on his own to get a canoe for Karana. I believed that Ramo got attacked by the dogs because he killed two of them and the rest came out to get revenge on him. When I found out that Ramo died, It was sad but I was surprised because he should not have went on his own to get the canoe knowing wild dogs are on the island an Karana told him not to.

 When I am grown and out of school, I want to be a Math teacher because as I mentioned before, I like to help others. I enjoy it because it helps you to learn social skills and to increase your ability to do things like that. I believe all my Math teachers have inspired me to become one of them because I learned a lot and I have overcome my abilities.

 My favorite authors are Neil Gaiman and Ann M. Martin. Neil is my favorite because he writes good mysterious horror books and there just great! Ann M. Martin is also my favorite because she is a good thinker when it comes to her writing a book. I believe those authors would inspire me more to be a great writer.

 When I moved to this school it was a great thing to do. But a couple fun things that I missed out on. This upcoming time, May 10 th, I hope to have fun at the baseball game because back at my old school, we never went on field trips. Well I do hope to have a great time there and be able to be “free” and have a blast.
