TAB Key Challenges for 2005 l Integrate TC activities l More profitable TC managed conferences l Promote emergent technologies l Increase number of industry & student members l Strengthen software support for TCs l Increase number of TC volunteers

TAB Goals for 2005 l Integrate activities & products 1. TAB & SAB identify/support emerging standards 2. TAB & CAB identify local TC speakers for chapters 3. TAB & Pubs identify volunteers to support pubs 4. TAB & Pubs identify possible new publications 5. TCs & TAB committees are working on integration - Embedded Systems - Parallel & Distributed Processing

TAB Goals for 2005 (continued) l More profitable conferences 1. TC Chairs understand CS services & overhead 2. TCs & conferences develop closer relationship 3. Pros & cons evaluated for returning percentage of profits to conferences 4. Conferences merged & co-located for greater profit l Promote emergent technologies 1. Identify emergent technologies 2. Find leaders to form new TFs in emergent areas

Recommend tools for standardized support l Increase number of industry & student members 1. TC websites contain information of interest to practitioners 2. TCs promote emerging standards 3. Additional support needed from Computer Society l Staff, tools, & hosting for TC portal development l Database of recommended subcontractors (hotels, caterers, printers, …) l Monetary support for Technical Activities award (currently the only award that is not monetary)

Assessment Criteria l TAB & SAB document a policy for identifying, approving, and supporting work on Emerging Standards l TAB & CAB document a policy for identifying and recommending speakers targeted at specific local chapters

Assessment Criteria l Number of joint activities among TCs l Currently 2; at least 1 more l Number of new TFs/committees in emerging technologies l At least 2 l Websites / portals more appealing to practitioners l At least 1, serving as a prototype

Assessment Criteria Continued l Student TC portal developed l Requires IT support l Increase in TC vitality l 20% increase in TCs & TFs participating at OpCom (21 at 11/04 meeting) l Recommendations for standardized TC tool support l Recommendations documented
