Session outcomes By the end of this session you should: 1.Have an understanding of what makes good continuing TV 2.Understand and be able to apply the knowledge required to create a series synopsis and premise 3.Have agreed upon and understand the initial concept for your teams series 4.Have decided which group you want to be in for the duration of the module 5.Have an understanding of the homework requirements for week three

What makes for good continuing TV? What key ingredients does a continuing TV drama series need? What different types of continuing TV drama are there? How does continuing TV drama differ from other forms of TV drama? Why make continuing TV drama? What does an audience expect form continuing TV drama?

Examples of successful continuing TV drama Let’s look at a number of successful continuing TV dramas and ask the following questions about each: 1.What is the unique selling point? 2.What is the precinct (if any?) 3.What are the driving character relationships/tensions? 4.What is the story engine? 5.How is the series narrative arc organised? 6.How do the characters develop? 7.What gives the story legs?
