West Coast Impact Athletic League What is WCIAL? Who are the leaders / coaches? Volunteers!! Please be thinking about how you can volunteer as we discuss the Impact Eco Challenge

Impact Eco Challenge What is the Impact Eco Challenge? –A 2 day TEAM endurance race –Teams of 6-8 compete in multiple challenges while hiking a 25ish mile course –Teams will be scored on challenges and overall time on the course –Challenge stations will include both physical and mental challenges

Impact Eco Challenge How did the Impact Eco Challenge come to be?

Impact Eco Challenge What’s the point? –The point of the Impact Eco Challenge is: –To build personal confidence –To experience and build teamwork –To gain experiences that will last a lifetime (Silver lake island scout story) –To compete in a friendly environment –To have fun!

Impact Eco Challenge Important Dates: –There are no mandatory training days –Team registration deadline April 1 st –Chaperone and volunteer meeting Wed. April 20 th at 6 PM (Joslin home) –Impact Eco Challenge Friday and Saturday May 6 th and 7 th –Sly Park / Jenkinson Lake

Impact Eco Challenge

Walk through of race day Friday –Team must check in at the campground Friday morning –Teams will be positioned for a “staggered” start at several places on the course –Event begins at different times for different teams –Teams bed-down at the campground after day one

Impact Eco Challenge Walk through of race day Saturday –Teams will pack-up camp at the same time –Teams will again be positioned for a staggered start –Teams will finish at the same point that they started –Awards ceremony and dinner to follow

Impact Eco Challenge Teams must be fully self sufficient and carry everything needed for 2 day event on their back Teams must be 6-8 members with a minimum of 2 girls Teams must provide a chaperone and at least 1 other volunteer

Impact Eco Challenge Cost is $50 per racer and includes camp fees, after race dinner, awards and equipment used at checkpoints If you have multiple kids racing each additional racer is $40 Parent participation IS required

Impact Eco Challenge Checkpoint operation –Teams will check in at the checkpoint (there is no minimum time at checkpoints this year) –All items needed to complete the activity will be at the checkpoint –Teams will be scored in various categories including completion of task, teamwork, attitude, creativity and overall execution –Teams will also be scored on overall time

Impact Eco Challenge There are both personal and team equipment requirements Please pick up an equipment list before you leave

Impact Eco Challenge Safety –There will be safety personnel on the course at all times –Everyone is a safety expert! If you see something that you think is unsafe please bring it to the attention of an adult

Impact Eco Challenge Hydration –Drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to event –For proper hydration you have to monitor what’s going in and what’s coming out. So, let’s talk about PEE!

Impact Eco Challenge Summary of changes from last years event –Staggered start instead of shotgun start –Untimed checkpoints –Increased course length –Mix of new and recycled checkpoints –More simple scoring rules Score will be a running total of checkpoint points –Progressive trophy
