Young Members’ Council Of Chinese YMCA

YMC aims to develop leadership potentials and social participation among young people

What is Young Members’ Council? Formation All of us selected from Youth Services Centers of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Delegates are elected by registered electors of their respective centre.

Formation (Cont) Every youth services centre is eligible for 1 or 2 seats in the YMC according to the number of registered electors of the centre. The term of office of the delegates is 2 years. The Chairman and office bearers are elected by and from among delegates.

Requirements for Delegates and Electors Delegates : aged 18 to 30 with valid membership of the Chinese YMCA; Electors : aged 16 to 30 with valid membership of the Chinese YMCA.

More about us The term of office of the delegates is 2 years. The Chairman and office bearers are elected by and from among delegates. The YMC has 15 delegates for the term Three divisions in YMC (Internal division, Program division, Social Concern division)

Missions and Functions 1.To discuss the work of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, and give advice if appropriate; 2.To study social issues concerning interests of young people 3.To commit in fostering the YMCA movement; 4.To facilitate communication between members and the Association; 5.To develop leadership potentials of young people; 6.To promote fellowship among delegates.

Autonomy & Co-operation The YMC is free to plan and organize programs with reference to its goals; Chinese YMCA provides financial assistance to YMC, about HKD60,000 annually in past several years; The Secretariat, formed by YMCA secretaries, helps much in the work of the YMC;

Youth empowerment an Attitudinal, Structural and Cultural process Young people gain the ability, authority, and agency to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the lives of other people.

Youth empowerment (Cont) A gateway to intergenerational equity, civic engagement and democracy building. Activities involved therein may focus on Youth-led media, Youth rights, Youth Councils, Youth activism, Youth involvement in community decision-making
