Fat Facts  Many people throughout the world consume too much fat in their diets  Fat intake needs vary on age and weight  Following a low fat diet can reduce the risk of heart disease

Good fats  Healthy fats help give energy, prevent blood clotting, and reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels.  These fats which are called essential fatty acids (EFA’s) or Vitamin F, are found in cold-water fish and cold-temperature plans oils

Good fats cont…  Monounsaturated fats also are healthy for the body  They are found in olive, almond, and canola oils  All of these are liquid at room temperature and generally come from plant seeds

Poly-Unsaturated Fats  Poly unsaturated fats can decrease cholesterol levels, they can also decrease the percentage of healthy HDL cholesterol.  They come from plant seeds and are liquid at room temperature  Found in safflower oil and corn oil

Bad Fats - Saturated Fats  Saturated fats and hydrogenated fats are unhealthy because they can clog arteries and elevate cholesterol levels.  They are found in animal foods, such as butter, margarine, and meat.
