What should you do before using an abbreviation or name sign unless you are talking about a large well known city or state? You should first fingerspell the name of the city and then sign the name sign or abbreviation of it.

What is a name sign? What does it mean if you have one? It is a combination of a persons name & a location on the head, torso, or hands where the sign is made. Having one means that you have been accepted by the deaf community by learning asl and the deaf culture. (only a deaf person can give you a name sign!) 
