Plant Around Us

We see plants all around us. They are of many shapes, sizes and colours.

Trees They are tall and strong plants. They have a hard woody stem called a trunk. They have many branches. Leaves, flowers and fruits hang from the branches. Most trees live for a very long time. Examples of trees: Birch, Oak, Maple, Pine

Shrubs They are much smaller than trees. Their stems are woody and thin. They don't have a main trunk. They have many branches and grow close to the ground. Leaves, flowers and fruits hang from the branches. They do not live for very long. Examples of shrubs: Rose, lemon, hibiscus, cotton

Climbers They are plants with very weak stems. They cannot stand on their own. They climb on to other plants, sticks or walls for support. Examples of climbers are: Grapes, peas, money plant, beans.

Creepers They are very weak plants. They grow along the ground. Their stems are soft and weak. They cannot hold up the large fruits. Examples of creepers are: Pumpkin, watermelon, gourd

Herbs They are very small plants. They have soft, weak and green colour stems. Most parts of the herbs like leaves, flowers and seeds are eatable. They are used for flavouring food, in perfumes and medicines. Examples of herbs are: mint, basil, oregano, coriander .
