Unit 8 I’ll help clean up the city parks. Section B (3a—4)

Jimmy, a Bike Boy.

Last week everyone was trying to cheer up Jimmy, the Bike Boy. But this week, Jimmy is happy again. On Monday he told a radio interviewer that he had run out of money to buy old bikes. He also put up some signs asking for old bikes and called up all his friends and told them about the problem. Read the article and underline all the phrasal verbs. 3a

He even handed out advertisements at a local supermarket. Then he told the teachers at school about his problem and they set up a call-in center for parents. The strategies that he came up with worked out fine. He now has sixteen bikes to fix up and give away to children who don’t have bikes.

Questions: 1. What did Jimmy tell the radio interviewer? He had run out of money to buy old bikes. 2. Why did he put up some signs? Because he wanted to ask for old bikes. 3. Did his strategies work out fine? Yes, they did. 4. How many bikes does he have now? 16

Read the passage and write T for true and F for false. ( ) 1.On Monday, he told a TV reporter that he had run out of money to buy bikes. ( ) 2. He put up some signs asking for old bikes. ( ) 3. He handed out advertisements at school. ( ) 4. Jimmy and teachers at school set up a call-in center for students.  F T F F

Li Haibo, a kind and warm-hearted man. He often gives money to poor children to study. He has helped more than 15 kids. You probably think he is very rich. You are sure wrong! He makes a living by doing some hard work. He gets money by sending newspapers in the early morning. He collects bottles and paper in the morning and sells them in the afternoon. Sometimes he does the dishes in the restaurant or has some other part-time jobs at night. In a word, he does several tiring jobs every day. He thinks he is very happy because he can help kids who need help. Unluckily, he is sick now, he has no time to get money to help poor kids. He needs to come up with some way of getting money. What should he do? He doesn’t want to stop.

Match the sentences with time 1. Sell something that he collects. 2. Wash the dishes. 3. Send newspapers. 4. Collect bottles and paper. c d a b A. In the early morning. B. In the morning. C. In the afternoon. D. In the evening.
