Purpose of Research Focus more on the Child’s happiness and wellbeing Having cancer is serious, and children can be overwhelmed by all of the strong treatment. By using therapy dogs as an Alternative Therapy, I think that the cancer patients will be happier, healthier, and less prone to falling into depression. Any patient of any facility can reap benefits from using Pet Therapy. There are factors such as allergies that can rule out patients, but younger and older patients can use Pet Therapy successfully. Pet Therapy can also be use in crisis situations to alleviate victims in dire need of help.

What is Pet Therapy? Also known as Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) Used in various places such as: Prisons Hospitals Nursing Homes Mental Institutions Home Primary purpose is to improve mental, social, and cognitive functions of the patient. 5. Only 1% of the animals who apply, and are tested to be accepted into AAT are actually accepted.

What animals are used? -Monkeys -Dogs -Cats -Fish -Horses -Dolphins -Reptiles -Llammas 8. Dolphins can help children and have a calming effect on the children.

Scientific Studies 6. Animals can help people who can't remember their experiences.

Challenges Most personal accounts on the patients experience is positive, however Research Literature is limited and often inconclusive. Pediatric Patients are very vulnerable to the bacteria carried by animals, animals must follow a protocol 7. Doctor and dentist offices often have fish tanks so that the patients are calmer.

Conclusion and Product “There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. ”- Ben Williams Many people agree that a human’s best friend is a dog, or another animal. I want to emphasize that the wellbeing of a Cancer Patient during treatment is extremely important. Through Pet Therapy, patients will have something to occupy them from their multiple cancer treatments. Patients also can have a companion that is reliable– there are no feuds, no degrading, and no judgmental comments. Through research, pet therapy has proven to instill responsibility and purpose into a variety of patients– from pediatric cancer patients to elderly nursing home residents. Animals do give a sense of catharsis to humans– they help with pure and whole intentions. My proposed product is to create a scholarly article on Pet Therapy on Pediatric Patients, and possibly have my article be published on a newspaper or magazine. I am not experienced in writing articles, so my article will take time to edit and properly cite. However, I look forward to educating more patients and their parents on Pet Therapy in a scholarly, reliable article. Although I did not conduct any of the research studies myself, I will analyze what a see– a common re- occurring trend of patients experiencing the benefits of Pet Therapy.

Conclusion
