Grade 5 Lesson 2.8 Multiplication of whole numbers and decimals Objective: To review the partial-products method for whole numbers and decimals.

Math Message 0 Estimate the solution to the problem. 0 Write a number sentence showing how you found your estimate * 6.2

Partial Products Method 0 In the partial products method of multiplication, each part of one factor is multiplied by each part of the other factor. Each partial product is written on a separate line. Then they are added together.

Partner work 0 With a partner (or alone) complete EITHER the even or the odd numbers on pages 50, 51 and 52 of your student workbook. 0 Note which problems you need to find a magnitude estimate for and those that you will need to find an exact answer for. 0 Page 52 requires the use of open number sentences (those that use a variable in the place of the unknown number).

Homework 0 Homework for this lesson is Study Link 2.8 Estimating and Multiplying 0 Enrichment is page 57: A mental calculation strategy (multiplying numbers that end in 9)
