7 Principles of Personal Evangelism John 4:1-26

Contact People Socially We must have Social Contact – Importance of Jesus going through Samaria Do not confuse Separation with Isolation – Withdrawing ourselves from those who have not heard the gospel is contrary to the will of the Lord Opportunities for Social Contact – School – Work – Home

Establish a Common Interest Common Interests Create a Bridge – Jesus first words to the Samaritan woman – Realize the need to Build Rapport Common Interests are Many – Family – Activities – Shared Experiences

Raise Spiritual Interest Through Your Actions – Example of Jesus – Regarding our Actions Through Your Words – Example of Jesus – Regarding our Words

Don’t Go Too Far, Too Fast Give a person what they are ready for – Jesus discussion with the woman – Sometimes realization of what they need is absent Examples – Learning the Whole Bible – First Principles of the gospel – Don’t choke on the “meat” of the Word

Don’t Condemn Unnecessarily Example of Jesus – Did not focus on being an adulteress – Came to Save not Condemn – Primary Purpose = Offer of Salvation In our Evangelistic Efforts – Share the gospel – don’t judge – Share the Forgiveness God offers

Stick with the Main Issue The Samaritan Woman – Tried to turn the topic to something else – Jesus answered while steering the conversation back to the original topic Remain Steadfast to your Objectives – Don’t jump ahead – Move from Common to Uncommon Ground – Don’t get bogged down in details

Confront Directly Jesus Example – Confronted her with His Identity – After He had laid the Groundwork

Personal Challenge Who is Jesus Your Need for Forgiveness – Romans 3:20-26 – Romans 6:23 Your Response

Conclusion Contact People Socially Establish a Common Interest Raise Spiritual Interest Don’t go Too Far, Too Fast Don’t Condemn Unnecessarily Stick with the Main Issue Confront Directly

Conclusion Result of Jesus’ Conversation – verses This Demonstrates the Potential – Realizing this potential, we can better appreciate the words of Jesus: “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” – (John 4:35) Perhaps by following the example of our Lord, we can be more useful in His service.
