is basically a short form of electronic mail. is a system for exchanging messages through a computer network. People most commonly used send and received text messages, but it depending on the software you use, you may be able to exchange audio or video messages with someone else. was one of the first uses of the internet, and quickly became a popular feature because it leads users exchange messages from anywhere in the world. Further, is less expensive than using the telephone because there is no charge for using it, beyond the regular fees you pay your ISP. services are very easy to access, and this is another reason for popularity.

News group or usenet is a group of people who share common interest. Newsgroup serves as a central stage or bulletin board for these people. These people can send messages to other members, read other member’s messages and reply to a particular message. When any member of the newsgroup sends a message, the newsgroup server send it to all members of the group. Other members can now respond to this message. This online conversation is also called usenet. Various such groups are available on web portal like yahoo.com

File transfer protocol is a protocol design to transfer files between two computers on a client – server network. In the internet, there are many FTP server which contain huge volumes of information in the form of files. Any user willing to transfer these files into his computer, can connect to FTP server and download the specific files into hardisk on his own computer. “the process of transferring the file from a remote computer to a local computer is called downloading.” “the process of transferring the file from a local computer to a remote computer is called uploading.” In this way, FTP is a medium of transfer on the internet.

Chatting is the most fantastic thing on internet. Chatting is like a text phone. In a telephonic conversation, you say something, people here it and respond, you hear their responses on the sport and can reply instantly. In the same manner, in chatting, you type a message on your screen, which is immediately received by the recipient; then the recipient can type a message in response to your message, which is received by you instantly.

The popularity of public chat rooms created a huge demand a way to chat privately, so that a limited number of invited people could exchange real- time messages on their screen without being seen or interrupted by anyone else online. The demand led to the development of instant messaging(I.M) a type of chat software that restrict participation to specific user. their are several poplar im services available, such as windows messenger, AOL instant messenger,and other.

An online service is a company that offers access, generally on a subscription basis, to , discussion group database on various subject, and other services ranging from electronic banking and investing to online games. Online services all offers access to the internet functioning as ISP to their subscriber. The most popular online services are America online,CompuServe,prodigy.

The term online sopping refers to shop on the internet several companies offer their products on sale through their websites. the process of buying and selling products on the internet is referred to as E-commerce. companies create a special website containing products pictures, description, availability and price information etc.. The users log on to the desired site,takes a look and feel of the product and places order for the item. The address of user is saved with the transaction id and the product selected by the user. The user can have a look at the product and then can pay the amount by supplying the credit card number and code
