Roadblock Theory Player Management Techniques Referee Level 3

Roadblock Theory Player management is a series of control techniques. These can be viewed as a series of roadblocks

Roadblock Theory It’s like driving down the road and seeing a series of yellow advisory signs which provide information. The more important red sign tells you to STOP.

Roadblock Theory Free kick Quiet word Public Warning Yellow card Red card

Roadblock Theory Free kick Quiet word Public Warning Yellow card Red card Return to fair play Captain

Roadblock Theory Players are responsible for their own behaviour. The referee is responsible for ensuring the match is played according to the laws of the game

Roadblock Theory A yellow card is a tool to help a player stay on the park. It should not be seen as something that has the player halfway off.

Roadblock Theory Free Kick says: “That was unfair... give the ball back to the your opponents!”

Roadblock Theory Quiet word … Friendly advice given to player and delivered unobtrusively

Roadblock Theory Public Warning Referee takes the player to one side and publicly admonishes him

Roadblock Theory The Caution Make the caution effective. It should be the final tool in modifying the behaviour of the player.

Roadblock Theory Using the Captain Is used infrequently “You’re the captain” “He’s your responsibility” “Any more and he’s off!” “You’re the captain” “You are responsible” “You fix it.”

Roadblock Theory IF ALL ELSE FAILS!
