THE KEYS TO SUCCESS Josh Stifter, Zachary Elmer

About Our Design In our High School Aerospace engineering class, within the discussion topic of Turbines, we were tasked with creating our very own to submit in the KidWind challenge. In brainstorming designs, and researching previous winners, Josh points out that the decorations to the Turbines were basically the “key to success” in lieu to the actual power of the turbine. This phrase, at the time, was a current popular media sensation among teens, and came to our eye regarding the DJ Khaled meme with his motivational phrases such as “the key to success” and “another one”. We took off from there, deciding to utilize the KidWind stand and base whilst deciding how to continue with the meme dj-khaled-s-keys-to- success/_jcr_content/image.custom1200x675x20.dimg/ Music-10-DJ-Khaleds-Keys-to-Success-Key-Dade- County.jpg

The Blades Originally the blades were supposed to be in the shape of key emoji’s, but because they were so thin, they would not only break easily, but would not spin very easily. Instead, we carved 29cm blades that had appropriate airfoils for proper operation. We then glued cutouts of key emoji’s on them so they still showed keys.

The Nacelle For our Nacelle we found that if we were to 3-D print an adapter for KidWind gears to an VEX axle/system we could create a proper nacelle. Ours uses VEX metal pieces which encases the generator and gear system which itself threads down to the base.
