NAATEN Mission To eliminate tobacco use in the African American community by serving as leader and unified voice on a national level and engaging African American/Black organizations in strategies to prevent and eliminate tobacco use.

Leading Causes of Preventable Death for African Americans/Blacks

Health Outcomes for African Americans AA continue to suffer the burden of tobacco caused disease at higher rates than White Americans Prevalence: 22%…1 of every 5 AA(in this country) International prevalence rates are rising Current trends of smoking initiation will lead to more deaths High rates of co-morbidity (CV disease, asthma, hypertension, diabetes…) Highest youth exposure rates to SHS

National Quitline Assessment “Black Folks Don’t Use Quitlines!” Assessment methods: (data mining, SH training, service provider site visits, post site visit survey, key informant interviews, facilitated discussion) Policy recommendations from network to states and vendors
