DEVELOPING OUR PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY Parent Involvement Policies are required to do the following: –Improve the relationship between school and home; –Build on strengths of parenting skills; –Plan and conduct workable methods of two way communication focused on child’s learning; –Provide ways for families and school staff to develop learning goals; and –Include parents in school decisions to develop leaders and represent all families in the school.

EVALUATING THE RESULTS Schools are required to review all three each year, with parental involvement, to determine if they are effective and to make changes, if needed. This evaluation occurs in the summer– and through parent and staff surveys. How do you know whether or not your compact, policy and plan are working?

According to the parent survey, parent meetings and teacher feedback from the professional development session, what are the school’s areas of strength? Parents - Clear communication (i.e. child’s academic progress, events, etc.), Teachers - strong intervention team, striving to open pathways for more parent involvement, extra help provided to students-knowing students’ needs, providing resources to families, reading/literacy night

According to the parent survey, parent meetings and teacher feedback from the PD session, what are the school’s areas of need? Parents - Technology, parent workshops, parent resource center, input into school decisions, more opportunity for parents to share their opinions about school related issues, childcare assistance Teachers – more parent/family involvement, more intervention staffing, teacher accountability, parent resource center

Now that you have determined the school’s areas of need, please list them in priority order and identify which of these needs you will be focusing on next year.  Parent involvement activities such as parent workshops  homework assistance  try again to start up parent professional learning committee (more input from families)
