What is Upward Bound? A college prep program designed to prepare students for college life

Who Can Join Upward Bound? Do I Qualify: 9 th or 10 th grade high school students U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. CORE 40 or higher high school diploma program Students at South Side, North Side, New Haven, Wayne, or New Tech Academy Minimum high school GPA of 2.0/4.0 Income eligible and/or students who will be the first person in their family to attend college HAVE A STRONG DESIRE TO GO TO COLLEGE!

What Do Students in Upward Bound Do? During the School Year: Weekly tutoring Saturday classes (once or twice per month) College workshops College visits Cultural events

What Do Students in Upward Bound Do? During the Summer: Supplemental Classes Residential Stay Residential Activities -Talent Show -Teambuilding Activities -Sporting Events -College Visits

What Do Students Gain from the Program? Academic support and guidance Career Exploration College Visits Leadership Development College Planning Guidance Stipends (monetary incentives to attend events) A General High School Credit in Summer Opportunities for Work/Study Experiences College Credit Classes Junior/Senior Year Financial Aid Searching Assistance Tutoring College Applications Assistance

What Do Students Gain from the Program? Greater Academic Confidence Less Anxiety about College Process Greater Sense of Responsibility Cultural Awareness Increased Self-esteem

What Does the Program Cost? The Upward Bound program is FREE. The program is fully funded by a Department of Education grant.

Becoming a Member Complete the application forms & return them to your high school counselor Complete the student/parent interview process Acceptance letters mailed out Attend new student/parent orientation October-NovemberNovember-December December January Apply Early! Spaces are limited
