A Quick Introduction Research and teaching tend to be separate endeavors –Student-faculty research can be piecemeal VIP connects the two through project-based learning –Offered as a course with team listings online –Teams work on projects driven by faculty research –Students benefit: apply knowledge, develop new skills –Faculty benefit: can take on larger, long-term projects

What does VIP look like? Project-based –Tackle a research or design problem –Work together to advance the project VIP Teams –10-20 students –Faculty advisors, grad student mentors –Meet weekly Students –Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors –Earn 1-2 credits per semester –Can participate for multiple semesters –Junior/Senior design options for some majors (thesis and capstone projects, too)
