Induction Evening 2015

Induction Photos.

Community Welcome to our community. It is one based on our Mission Statement concentrating on CARE FOR ALL. Based on a FAITH community, offering an appropriate curriculum, in a FAMILY context. We pride ourselves on our positive relationships. Our tutor system has been developed with this in mind.

Pupil Support We understand that transition is a challenging time for our pupils and sometimes they may need a little extra support. The Academy has lots of people who can help them. Their tutor, the Chaplain, and their Progress Leader as well as our SENCO.

Expectations and Standards As I am sure you are aware we set high standards for our students. We try hard to concentrate on the positives and we have a comprehensive rewards and sanctions system here.

Communication We believe that it is vital that we work TOGETHER. We will send information home on a regular basis. Mrs. McCarthy writes a weekly newsletter and this is posted on our web-site, as is all vital information. You will be given passwords so you can access our data collection site, Go4Schools and this will enable you to track your child’s progress, throughout the year.

We will also be using texts, s and phone calls to keep you informed, as well as giving you opportunities to meet with our staff, at information and consultation evenings. If you want to contact us, the best way to do so, is by using the student planner, or you could your child’s tutor or Progress Leader. If you need to speak to somebody urgently, you can ring the Academy and leave a message or speak to our office staff.

What can parents/guardians do to support their child through transition?

Ensure that your child is ready on time and that they understand how they are getting to and from the Academy. Help them to bring everything they need for the day with them. It is a good idea to get into a routine and pack bags the night before, so it is not so rushed in the mornings.

We run a two weekly timetable and this can be a little confusing to start with. It is a good idea to talk through your child’s timetable with them for the first few weeks and also laminate the timetable and have it in a place which is easy to refer to.

Information Gathering We have provided a detailed booklet for you to take away with you and a selection of letters. Information is also available re: bus pass applications, school uniform providers, school payment details. The tutors and SENCO are here to meet you and discuss any issues you may have, along with the rest of the staff, at the end of this presentation.

The planner is an essential tool to help the pupils to become independent learners. The pupils should use it to record their homework in. It is also a great way to communicate with the staff. We would ask for your support in providing a suitable place for your child to complete their homework and it is advisable to establish a routine in September, which you can follow each evening so homework is seen as an integral part of their day. It is also a good idea to have a system for keeping books and equipment at home.

We also ask you to support us in ensuring that your child follows the Academy expectations regarding uniform(including jewellery, make-up and hair styles)and electronic devices.

In conclusion Can I reassure you that we really do want the best for your child. We recognise that they are a gift from God and we will do our very best to look after them, to educate them, to care for and love your child, whilst they are with us. We want the same things as you do for them and working TOGETHER we can achieve this. I look forward to working along side you in the coming years.
