UNMANNED AVIATION QUALIFICATION FLIGHT SKILLS TEST BRIEFING UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Purpose Safe and coordinated flying to a good standard That’s it! UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Pre -Test Requirements By the time you come to take your test you must have the following in place:  Your aircraft - for the mass category for which you are applying  Insurance for your aircraft  2 hours flight in the previous 3 months  Standard Operating Procedures and flight paperwork UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

How do we do that?  Knowledge of your unmanned aircraft –Components, modes and controls.  Site Assessment and mitigate the risks (start this tonight)  Safe handling –Use of controls, systems and emergency procedures.  Appropriate pre flight and post flight actions. UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Flight Procedures  You must demonstrate operation in accordance with a set of written flight procedures  These may be those written by UAVAir in the QRH (if appropriate for your type) or your own  If you are using your own, a copy should have been made available to the assessor who is conducting the assessment in advance UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Pre-flight (30 mins)  Flight Planning and site assessment –site assessment form (UAVAir QRH)  Pre-flight inspection –Visual inspection/systems knowledge  Verbal Knowledge of Emergency Procedures –Mid air collision, loss of link, incursion, emergency landing site UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0 Proportionate Briefings Some candidates have done a brief to the examiner lasting over 15 mins(!) We lose interest when someone has talked for more than 5-10 minutes so it's important to keep briefings relevant on the day, to what the big threats are not going over every small detail.

In-Flight (15 mins)  Maintenance of VLOS –Visual lookout for traffic, use of video link  Appropriate separation from persons beyond control  Safe and sensible flying throughout –No heroics or fancy flying is required! –Pragmatic decision making  Use of various flight modes –GPS x 1 manoeuvres –ATTI x 5 manoeuvres UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

 Awareness and monitoring of endurance  Demonstration of loss of link –Return to home  Other simulated emergency –Site incursion, fire etc. –This may be a verbal exercise UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0 In-Flight (15 mins)

Post-Flight (15 mins)  Shut down and make safe  Aircraft inspection  Paperwork and debrief –Battery –Pilot log –Aircraft log –UAVAir paperwork UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0 Any longer than 90 mins for the whole Flight Assessment will be considered a Fail.

Brief The assessor will not deliberately lead you astray or ask you to fly in a way that might be illegal. If you are unhappy with a request, then take the required action and advise the assessor accordingly. YOU are the pilot in command. The assessor may not assist you with the flight, aircraft controls or site assessment. The assessor will only intervene verbally should a real emergency occur. UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Brief You may use any tools, paperwork, checklists you would like to assist you with the flight. You are encouraged to use UAVA briefing paperwork. And remember: Just be safe and sensible UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

On-site  Bring your ID to be checked by the Assessor  Assessor will brief you and will guide you through the exercise  Conduct your site assessment  Construct your aircraft and conduct preflight duties  The assessor will brief you further on: –No fly areas –Health and safety equipment UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Questions UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0 See Homework on Final Slides

Day 2 Homework (1)  You only have one hour on the Flight Assessment Day so: –Transfer as much information as you can to the Site Assessment form in the QRH in advance tonight. –Practice setting up your drone in 15 mins –Some of the Site Assessment you can only do on the day, you cannot copy the weather you have written the night before – so turn up 30 mins early to get it all done and ready UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0

Day 2 Homework (2)  In addition, consider: –Memorising your Emergency Procedures, relevant briefings –Re-Read the Candidates Guide –You must unpack your drone, fly your drone, and pack away your drone in accordance with some procedures and checklists. If you do not have your own, then you must use those in the QRH and verbally or physically refer to them during the day. –Failure to do this will lead to a fail overall; if we cannot assess how well you have complied then it is impossible to judge how you might do this in real life. UAVAirways Limited | Registered in England No: | UAQ Skills Test v1.0
