Presentation transcript:

We have learned many ways to remember our subtraction facts. Think for a moment about the strategies we have learned so far.

Think of facts that are examples of these subtraction strategies. -Halves, -From 10 One Less, Less -Near Doubles -Make ten and some more Record your ideas. We will chart all of our ideas in a few minutes. -Zero, -Ten

Let’s Chart Our Examples - From 10 One Less, Two Less -Halves -Near Doubles -Make ten and some more -Zero, -Ten

Our strategies work for almost every subtraction fact…

But 8 facts don’t quite fit…..

Actually it’s only 4 facts…

Actually it’s only 4 facts (if you count the fact families… Why do you think that is?

Let’s look closely at these facts!

Think to yourself…

What might some of these facts have in common?

With a partner, think of some helpful ways that you could remember these facts

Remember!!! One strategy might not work for all of the facts. We will share our ideas as a class.

Record your ideas. Make sure that your words completely describe your strategy. It may be a good idea to illustrate your ideas.

If you finish early you can play a math folder game with your partner.

We will come together to share our ideas in 2 minutes.
