2 Think about things that come in pairs. Make a list of as many of those things as you can.

3 Turn to a partner and share your list. How many different things did you think of together?

4 Did anyone say that shoes come in pairs?

5 This is 1 shoe. What would we need to get a pair of shoes? Does it make sense to say that we would need to double the shoe to make a pair?

6 1 shoe 1 more shoe We doubled 1 shoe!

7 1 shoe 1 more shoe Can you write a number sentence that tells what we just did?

8 1 shoe 1 more shoe Double 1…… 1 + 1 = 2

9 Let’s explore some other DOUBLES

10 How many crayons are there in this box? So how many crayons would there be in TWO boxes? DOUBLE 8 DOUBLE 8

11 How many crayons are there in this box? So how many crayons would there be in TWO boxes? 8 + 8 = 16 8 + 8 = 16

12 How many fingers on 1 hand? Can you double 5?

13 Choose something below to double. First, count how many of something there are. Then, using the “Making Doubles” sheet to record, double that number.Making Doubles Write a number sentence to show what you did. Draw a picture to go with you number sentence.

14 Let’s complete the doubles!

15 When you finish……. Think of some other numbers you can double. Make a list of those numbers in your math journal and try to draw a model of them. - OR - Choose a “Doubles” folder game to play with a partner.
