3 How many boxes are empty? This is called a 10 frame. It has room for ten things. How many apples are in this frame? 8 2

4 Let’s try another one. How many apples do you see? Let’s put them in a 10 frame. How many apples are in the 10 frame? How many boxes are empty? 4 6

5 How many? How many boxes are empty? Do you see a pattern? 4 6 apples

7 How many? 3 apples How many boxes are empty? 7 Hmmm, what’s going on here?

8 How many boxes are empty? Remember this one? How many apples are in this frame? 8 2

9 How many? 2 apples How many boxes are empty? 8 Can you explain what is happening?

10 How many? 9 apples How many boxes are empty? 1 Can you predict what will be on the next screen?

12 This one is a little different. How many? 5 apples How many boxes are empty? 5 What is interesting about this one? What would happen if we did the next screen like we did the others?

13 Now you’re going to play a game with 10 frames. Spin the spinner. Place that number of markers on your 10 frame. Count how many boxes are empty and move your playing piece that many spaces. 12 3 4 5 6 7 8 Follow the apple path back to the apple tree. Start Finish

15 1 23 4 5 6 7 Put 3 markers on your 10 frame. Then count the number of empty boxes. Move your playing piece the number of empty boxes.

18 1 2 3 4 Put 5 markers on your 10 frame. Then count the number of empty boxes. Move your playing piece the number of empty boxes. 5

20 Keep going on like this until you reach the apple tree in the center of the board. If you are playing with a partner, the first one to the apple tree is the winner.
