West Coast Activity

Spotlight: California  Issue: Beverage Container Recycling Fund reporting a lower balance Impact: Processing “offset” fee payments to come out of the BCRF  Issue: Assembly bill would appropriate up to $20 million to improve glass recycling Next Steps: GPI will coordinate with members and GMP to support bill

Spotlight: Oregon Issue: Potential 2.5% tax for in- state sales on November ballot Impact: Glass companies & key customers to pay out $$$millions Next Steps: Coordination with in-state allies and workforce to oppose

Central States Activity

Spotlight: Indianapolis, IN  Issue: Covanta was to construct a “Dirty MRF” for “Waste to Energy” facilities that would have incinerated glass  Update: A lawsuit by local groups has halted the project; GMP, GPI and member companies contributed to opposition efforts

Northeast Activity

Spotlight: State Legislation  Connecticut: THREAT – Considering “study bill” that may eliminate bottle bill, replacing with beverage tax to support single stream recycling  Maryland: OPPORTUNITY - GPI and GMP submitted testimony to support state bottle bill  Massachusetts: THREAT – Considering ending bottle bill, replaced with 1-cent fee on beverages to promote single-stream recycling  Vermont: OPPORTUNITY – Legislature considering expanding bottle bill to include additional beverage containers
