October 4, 2013 Independent Reading time! Please make sure you have brought your writing warm-ups for the check

Writing Warm-Up I am checking to see what you have for Writing warm-ups so far this year

Learning Targets I can demonstrate my knowledge(prove that I know) of point of view on a formative assessment (quiz)

Quiz Remove everything from your desk and out of eyesight Talking=cheating I will come around to collect the quizzes. You do not need to raise your hand to let me know you are done. Place the quiz upside down on the right corner of your desk. Once you are finished, please be reading your book

RAFT Role: You are a travel agent. Your job is to explain the kinds of things each family member would like see or do on a cross county vacation.

RAFT Audience: 4 different family members (a mix of any of the following- mom, dad, young son, older son, young daughter, older daughter) Remember! They will each like different things for different reasons! You will need to explain this and look into it!

RAFT Format: This will be an informational piece. You should write two paragraphs for each family member explaining what it is they would want to do and why.

RAFT Topic: Explaining why a family of four (each family member) would want to go to which place and why on a cross country vacation. It should be free of YOUR opinion but keep the opinion of the audience in mind (for example why would a teenage girl want to go to a Katy Perry concert in Idaho but a little boy not?) You must visit at least one recreational attraction, one national park and one historic place. Try to compromise!

Outline Paragraph 1: Mom – Where to go- National park, rec. place, historic place – Why Paragraph 2: Dad – Where to go- National park, rec. place, historic place – Why Paragraph 3: Son (older or younger) – Where to go- National park, rec. place, historic place – Why Paragraph 4: Daughter (older or younger) – Where to go- National park, rec. place, historic place – Why
