Nicodemus John Chapter 3: 1-21 By Becky Kew Available at

Nicodemus was a very religious man. He belonged to a group called: “The Pharisees” They knew all about the Old Testament, but did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. Why did Nicodemus go to see Jesus at night?

The Lord Jesus told Nicodemus that he had to be born again. He could not go to heaven unless he was born again. Nicodemus thought being religious would be enough to please God.

Nicodemus asked, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter his mother’s tummy the second time?

Jesus said that this type of birth is a spiritual birth, you can’t see it.

God’s spirit works like the wind. You can’t see where it comes from or where it is going, but you can see what it does. God’s Spirit moves among people this way……

How is the New Birth like the wind? It is: Un__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __. It is: In __ __ __ __ __ __ __. It is NOT under the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ of man.

Nicodemus said, “How can these things be?” He was thinking in terms of physical things. Jesus said, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit, is Spirit. Don’t be so amazed when I say to you, THAT YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN!”

Do you understand this?

The Holy Spirit gives a person new life. This new life is a spiritual life, for anyone who believes in the Son as their own Savior. John 3:6 Eph. 4:26

JESUS SAID, “IF I TELL YOU ABOUT EARTHLY THINGS AND YOU DON’T BELIEVE, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO BELIEVE, IF I TELL YOU ABOUT HEAVENLY THINGS?

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up: John 3:14

That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life…….

The Lord Jesus also said to Nicodemus: “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that people in the world might be saved through his Son.” John 3:17

If you believe on the Son you are not condemned. If you do not believe on the Son you are condemned already, because you have not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.

Jesus said, “And this is why people are condemned: light has come into the world and people loved darkness rather than the light, because their deeds are evil.” John 3:19

For people who do evil, hate the light and will not come to the light. Why? (because their deeds will be exposed.) Those who know the truth, will come to the light and they are not afraid that their deeds will be exposed by God. John 3:19-21

All people religious and non-religious need to be born-again if they want to escape punishment and be in Heaven.

Something very special happened to Nicodemus-can you guess what it was? John 18:39
