CHINA

Since the 1980s, China's Communist Party has been using "socialist market economy" to describe their nation's economic system. China's economy is subject to market forces, and capitalists are involved, but the Party does not believe that capitalists run their economy.

China’s economy is the second largest in the world. In 2011 it overtook the US to become the world’s producer of manufactured goods.

About 51.3% of China’s population now lives in urban areas, as compared to 26% about 20 years ago (in 1990). The total number of people living in China cities and towns is more than double of the population of the United States of America!

It is estimated that by the year 2035, a full 70% of the Chinese population will live in urban areas.

By 2025, 40 billion square meters of floor space will be built…requiring the construction of between 20,000 to 50,000 new skyscrapers— the equivalent of ten New York Cities.

China will have 221 cities with million-plus inhabitants by (Europe has 35 cities of this size today) In addition, China will have 23 cities with populations more than five million.

China is investing over $300 billion in building high speed rail to connect all of its major cities

China has the world’s largest manufacturing workforce with over 112 million workers. The average Chinese manufacturing worker only makes US$0.81 an hour

70% of the world’s umbrellas are made in China. 60% of the world’s buttons are made in China. 9% of Chinese goods sent to the U.S. end up on Wal- Mart’s shelves. 72% of U.S. shoes were made in China. 85% of all U.S. artificial Christmas lights are made in China. 50% of U.S. kitchen appliances are made in China. 50% of U.S. toys are made in China
