Israel…..an example to us Now these things occurred as examples[a] to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they dida 1 Cor. 10:6 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come 1 Cor. 10:11

Israel is a Type of All of Us 1 Cor. 10: 11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. We come out of bondage to sin (Rom. 6:17) God calls us out to be His people (1 Pet. 2:9- 10) God has made a New Covenant with us in Christ (Heb. 10:16) We are baptized into Christ (Rom. 6:4) We go through the trial (40) of life (1 Pet. 1:17) We enter the promised rest under Jesus (Joshua) (Heb. 3:16-4:11) The Passover is remembered in the age to come in the Kingdom of Christ (Ezek. 45:21)

Topography of the Land of Israel Waters flow from the Sea of Life in Galilee to the Sea of Death in the Dead Sea

The Descender (Jordan) Starts high up in Mount Hermon from melting snow Starts high up in Mount Hermon from melting snow Takes waters from the Sea of Galilee (Life) at 600’ below Sea Level to the Dead Sea (no life) at 1300’ below Sea Level Takes waters from the Sea of Galilee (Life) at 600’ below Sea Level to the Dead Sea (no life) at 1300’ below Sea Level All water has no choice but to eventually flow to Dead Sea All water has no choice but to eventually flow to Dead Sea Follows a torturous route to the Dead Sea Follows a torturous route to the Dead Sea

Arabic Nahr Al-Urdun, Hebrew Ha-Yarden river with the lowest elevation in the world. It rises on the slopes of Mount Hermon, on the Syrian-Lebanese border, flows southward through northern Israel to the Sea of Galilee, and then divides Israel and the Israeli- occupied West Bank on the west from Jordan on the east before emptying into the Dead Sea at an elevation of about 1,312 feet (400 meters) below sea level. The Jordan is more than 223 miles (360 km) in length, but, because its course is meandering, the actual distance between its source and the Dead Sea is less than 124 miles (200 km).

Jordan River Represents Course of Life The Jordan follows a serpentine route: The Jordan follows a serpentine route: – The serpent came to represent sin –The sentence for disobedience was death Gen. 2:17, 3:3,19 –Death passed on all men through Adam Rom. 5:12-21 The Jordan descends to the lowest place on the surface of the Earth The Jordan descends to the lowest place on the surface of the Earth The Jordan ends in the Dead Sea The Jordan ends in the Dead Sea –The wages of sin is death Rom. 6:23

Waters of Jordan Reverse! Resurrection! They went backwards (from death to life) They went backwards (from death to life) They went as far back as near the city of Adam (resurrection all the way back to Adam) They went as far back as near the city of Adam (resurrection all the way back to Adam)

The Waters Return The miracle of the waters flowing backwards is the miracle of resurrection The miracle of the waters flowing backwards is the miracle of resurrection The waters of the Jordan returning to their normal state can only mean that sin and death will yet be a constant for some after the miracle of the resurrection has passed The waters of the Jordan returning to their normal state can only mean that sin and death will yet be a constant for some after the miracle of the resurrection has passed In the Kingdom age mortal men will exist for the 1000 years of Christ’s reign In the Kingdom age mortal men will exist for the 1000 years of Christ’s reign

The State of the Resurrected who go into the Promised Land They are all circumcised (The redeemed are immortal; flesh is cut off) 1Co 15:50They are all circumcised (The redeemed are immortal; flesh is cut off) 1Co 15:50 They remember the Passover (Christ is our Passover Lamb 1 Cor. 5:7)They remember the Passover (Christ is our Passover Lamb 1 Cor. 5:7) They obtained rest under Joshua (The redeemed enter into the promised rest under Jesus)They obtained rest under Joshua (The redeemed enter into the promised rest under Jesus) They no longer eat manna from heaven but eat of the fruit of the Promised Land (the redeemed no longer need to be fed daily from His Word, but are part of the immortal body of His Son (The Word of Life) – “they ate manna and are dead” John 6:49,58)They no longer eat manna from heaven but eat of the fruit of the Promised Land (the redeemed no longer need to be fed daily from His Word, but are part of the immortal body of His Son (The Word of Life) – “they ate manna and are dead” John 6:49,58)

The 12 Stones  12 stones were taken out of the Jordan by one man from every tribe – represent the 12 tribes of Israel  The 12 stones were in the Jordan all the time that the waters flowed over them (The Jews are a constant witness in the Earth to God’s existence Isa. 43:10)  They were brought into the Promised Land and set up as a testimony (All Israel shall be saved says Paul 1 Cor. 11: )  12 stones were put back into the Jordan and the waters once again flowed over them (Israel will once again be a nation in the earth in the Kingdom Age) Matt. 19:28

What Lengths God Went To In Order to Teach the Truth About How and When He Will Reward His Own He formed the Dead Sea far below sea level and Jordan River taking waters from a living body of water to death He prevented Moses from entering the Promised Land (Old Covenant Law) and brought His people into it under Joshua (Jesus) He had them prepare themselves for 3 days and had them take the ark out ahead of them by 2000 cubits He rolled back the waters of the Jordan to a place near to the city named Adam He had them cross over on dry land He removed all the former generation and had the next generation remain uncircumcised until they entered the Promised Land He used 12 stones to teach us about Israel

How God Used Israel to Teach Us  He used Israel’s bondage in Egypt to teach us about the bondage of sin  He used the Passover to teach about redemption  He used the Exodus through the Red Sea to teach about baptism  He used the wandering of Israel in the wilderness to teach about the trial in this present life  He taught that resurrection and judgment precede the Promised Reward  He taught that man does not have an immortal soul that will be judged at his death – resurrection is needed first at the ‘Last Day’, then judgment and eternal reward

A Future Time of Rest  1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it Heb. 4:1-2  For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God Heb. 4:8-9
