Presentation transcript:

Tommy’s brother was in charge of the homecoming party for this year. When he was asked to put in more hours at work, he relinquished much of the leadership to his brother. Tommy planned the whole party, but his mother was upset with him for not doing his work at home. She told Tommy that he couldn’t go to the party because he hadn’t done any of his chores. Tommy thought she was being facetious until she took his keys away. At this point, he realized that she was resolute about her decision. Tommy thought his mom was just trying to sabotage his metamorphosis into the most popular kid by keeping him home.

WEEK 9 WORDS Relinquish Facetious Metamorphosis Resolute Sabotage

Relinquish When someone gives up something such as power or control. After being in charge of the music program for more than 20 years, Mr. Jones relinquished his control to his younger colleague.

Facetious When someone is making humorous remarks or saying things that they do not mean in a situation where they ought to be serious. Ken was not happy when his friend was facetious about his lost puppy.

Metamorphosis When a person or thing develops or changes into something completely different Her fans were surprised by her metamorphosis from a singer to an actress.

Resolute When someone is determined not to change his mind or not to give up a course of action. The Washington Redskins were resolute about changing their name and mascot.

Sabotage When something is deliberately damaged or destroyed for example in a war or protest The bombing of the tower was a spectacular act of sabotage.
