PRESENT: Co- production with people affected by dementia in East Dunbartonshire. THIRD NATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION CONFERENCE WEDNESDAY 23 RD APRIL 2014 EDINBURGH

What co-production is about “Co-production of public services means professionals and citizens making better use of each other's assets, resources and contributions to achieve better outcomes or improved efficiency”. Source: Governance International “Capabilities assessments, not just needs assessments.”

The Governance International Co-Production Star

Distinctive principles of co-production Service users and staff are active contributors bringing together their skills and expertise. Collaboration – ‘doing with’, not ‘doing to’. Achieving outcomes, not just delivering services.

5 Group work Identify for each person a capability, which is currently underused (at work, at home or in their social life) and which could be used more to help others.

What PRESENT aims to achieve People affected by dementia having a stronger PRESENCE in local communities and public services. Enabling people who have dementia to make a contribution to other people’s lives.

People with dementia are the experts in their own lives! Tommy Dunne “61yrs old. I'm living with dementia (Alzheimer’s) not suffering with it. Cogito Ergo Sum - I think therefore I am.”
