Young Enterprise What is it? Young Enterprise is a course we run with an outside agency to encourage the development of a range of key, transferable and entrepreneurial skills. The course is all about developing; Confidence Team work Resilience Independence And Practical Business skills It is a great opportunity for year 10 to get involved in something extra curricular to put on their C.V. It can also be referenced in year 11 when they apply for further education courses.

Who is involved? The whole of year 10 is involved- 24 companies of pupils in total. Companies are made up of two Mentor groups – just year 10 pupils. One Mentor/ Co-Mentor out of four will be responsible for each company. Steph Ridge- Young Enterprise Coordinator, any problems with your company, money etc. or questions Steph. Jo Mitham is from Young Enterprise- she is our point of contact with the company and brings in business visitors at selected times to help out.

Key Dates 1.Monday 14 th September – Introduction Assembly with Jo Mitham 2.Friday 25 th September- PSHE Day, Year 10 will have 2 hours to work on Young Enterprise on this day. 3.Tuesday 13 th October- Dragons Den pitch Day, 2 pupils from each company will pitch their product idea to acquire up to £25 from the school to help their company buy materials. 4.Friday 20 th October- Sawston Bake Off. 5.Tuesday 1 st December- PSHE Day, Year 10 will be working on Trade stands and having visitors in to talk to them. 6.Tuesday 15 th December- Da Vinci and Turing Trade Fair HMH at lunch. 7.Wednesday 16 th December- Mandela and Earhart Trade Fair HMH at lunch. 8.Saturday 30 th January- Grafton Centre Trade Fair. 9.Monday 8 th February- Awards Assembly.

What is the expected outcome? The aim of the course aside from encouraging the development of key skills is to make money! The more profit the better! EVERY year 11 company from last year made a profit. We are hoping to match and then beat that this year- so it is competitive between the companies as well.

Companies will “Pitch” to a panel to secure the £25 loan the school may (or may not) provide Dragons Den Style. 13 th October Pitch Day

Your company will need to create cakes ready for the 20 th where they will sell them in the HMH at lunch to boost their profits to get the company started with buying materials.
