NJH Schedule

Elementary vs. Secondary Grading

Elementary School Grading LEARNING PROCESS The behaviors that students learn are very important. The behaviors that promote learning are: cooperation with others, participation in discussions, respect for others, producing quality work, and using class time well. C – Consistently O – Often S – Sometimes R - Rarely ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE Each subject area identifies list of skills and concepts that represent grade level expectations. Students will receive a 4, 3, 2, or 1 to indicate their academic performance in each area. 4 – Exceeding standard at this time. 3 – Meeting standard at this time. 2 – Developing toward standard at this time. 1 – Significantly below standard at this time.

Secondary Grading 11-POINT GRADING SCALE Academics Citizenship

Example of Teacher Syllabus Academic Expectations: Grades are calculated by taking the points earned divided by points possible. Tests are worth ~60%, Homework ~25%, Classroom Participation ~10%, Drills ~5%. I post grades online at: I can print progress reports for people who do not have online access. Grade scale is: A 92.5‐100% A‐ 90‐92.4 B+ 86.5‐89.9 B 82.5‐ 86.4 B‐ 80‐ 82.4 C+ 76.5‐79.9 C 72.5‐76.4 C‐ 70‐ 72.4 D 60.1‐69.9 F >60 Participation in class will be worth ~10% of your grade. You must bring all supplies to class, do the warm-up or drill, discuss problems during pair/shares, take notes, attempt white board problems, work on the assignment during designated times, and work positively with your peers during group activities. Taking speaking turns are important, and can be done by speaking in small groups, offering to explain an answer to the class, or asking questions about how a problem is solved. Asking questions of your peers and me is strongly encouraged. Being attentive and quiet while others are speaking is part of participating in a learning environment.

Easing the Transition Communication with NJH Who to contact? Parent Vue NJH Site Teacher Websites/Calendars

Contact Your Student’s Counselor When…  You want assistance with educational planning for your student  Your student is struggling in multiple classes  You need financial assistance with school expenses  You know of anything that may interfere your student’s learning  You need referrals for community resources Our job is to be an advocate for your child’s academic success!

Contact Your Student’s Teachers When You… Need information specific to their classrooms: Curriculum  Assignments  Tests/Quizzes  Progress Reports  Grades Teachers work with students daily and know their individual needs. Some teachers have websites that may include general information about classes they teach, syllabi, student progress reports is an efficient and appropriate way to communicate with teachers Mr. Bob Titan

Parent Vue You and your student will each have a password Allows you to check student’s progress in each class Good idea to sit along side your student and check grades on a weekly basis
