The Basics 1,048,576 rows 16,384 columns The Selection Pane Under the Home Ribbon Find and Select, drop down arrow, Selection Pane Shows any hidden objects taking up space in your spreadsheet

Little Known Tips If your spreadsheet stops working, the VERY FIRST thing to do is to use [CTRL]+[A] and select the entire worksheet Copy the data Paste into new sheet Tried to enter a number greater then 15 digits? That is Excel’s number string limit Change the Cell Formatting Category to Text Problem solved

Oh Those Keyboard Shortcuts [CTRL]+[Home] takes you back to cell A1 [Shift]+[F11] adds a new sheet to the workbook [F11] to make a fast chart Press [ALT] to see all the short cuts for the main ribbons

Go To Press [F5] This opens the Go To dialog box Click the Special button You can go to comments, formulas, find blank cells and MUCH MORE!

Super Fast Sheet Selection Have a worksheet with a lot of sheets? Find the arrows that let you scroll between sheets Bottom left corner Right click on the arrows Select the sheet you want to navigate to

Re-order a List Quickly Have a column you need in reverse order but not sorted? Create a new column next to the one you need ordered Use the fill handle to number the new column 1- however many rows you have Select both columns Sort the NEW column from largest to smallest The other column will be reversed and reordered

Removing Duplicates Select the list you want to check Click on the Data Ribbon Choose Remove Duplicates Select the column you want to search Click OK Every instance of a duplicate except the first one will be removed

Sort By Color You can set your text to be different colors Red for negative numbers for example One the Data ribbon, click Sort Choose what column to sort by Under the Sort On box, choose Font Color The selected color will automatically be moved to the top of the list

Change Comment Colors Put a comment into the cell of your choosing Right click and choose Edit Comment Right click and choose Format Comment On the Lines and Colors tab, select the color you would like for your comment Click OK

Transpose Data Select the data you want to transpose Click Copy Go to the blank area where you want the data Click [ALT]+E+S+E Be impressed!

Importing In Text? You can use the Text Import Wizard Brings in a text file and allows you to break it into columns Make sure you know the delimiter! Usually it is the Tab key You can format individual columns as they come in

Text to Columns You may have a whole lot of text in one cell (last name, first name, and date of birth all together) Highlight the column Click the Data ribbon Use the Text to Column button Select the proper delimiter Usually a space in this case

Symbols You can quickly and easily insert symbols into cells Click the Insert ribbon and choose Symbol Select the Symbol you want and click Insert You may have to do a little searching to find the symbol you need

The Fill Handle Faster Then Ever Use the Fill Handle to fill in one series of information For example, A1:A20 Then click in B1 and enter text Press [Enter] Click back in B1 Double click the fill handle Sit back in awe

Favorite Functions…… Concatenate Strings cells together into one cell Countif Counts a column of cells and returns the number of the set criteria PMT Figures out a payment amount based on the sale price, number of payments, and interest rate

Paste Values Sometimes you want to copy a list of cells that have formulas in them If you do a straight copy and paste, you will get error messages in the pasted cells Instead, highlight the cells you want and click Copy Then click the drop down arrow under Paste Choose Paste Values

Love to Link Dynamically joins data between worksheets Updates automatically so it is much safer then copying and pasting A link is a formula, so DON’T forget the equal sign Press enter when you are finished Periodically check your links to make sure you are linking the right stuff

Chart Artfully Create charts that are unique and powerful by Changing data series formatting to make them personal You can actually put a logo in to a chart data series Using 3D chart types to make them more appealing Exploding pie charts are especially intriguing Adding trendlines Using or removing leader lines
