Banking customers can do most transactions, payments and transfer online, through very secure encrypted connections. To access online banking, a customer would go to the financial institution's secured website, and enter the online banking facility using the customer number and password previously setup. Some financial institutions have set up additional security steps for access to online banking, but there is no consistency to the approach adopted.

Fraudulent attempts to acquire information like usernames, logins, passwords and credit card details, by sending s pretending to be from a bank or an online retailer.

Beware of phishing: banks never send you an or a text message asking you to confirm any of your security details Protect yourself from malware such as viruses, Trojans and spyware by keeping your anti-virus SAP software regularly upd ated Do not use the same password and username for different bank accounts and never use banking passwords for other websites Make sure your password is difficult to guess Never write down passwords or PINs and carry them in your wallet Make sure you logout at the end of every Internet banking session
