HIP HOP/RAP

TASK 1

Where and when Hip Hop began Hip hop began in the 1970s and originates from the United States. Hip Hop is now listened to all around the world but mainly in South America and USA.

Who Created Rap/Hip Hop One of the first rappers of hip hop was a person called DJ Kool Herc who was known as the father of of Hip Hop, which originated in the early 1970s. Clive Campbell, known as DJ Kool Kerc, is a Jamaican American artist born on April 1955. Using the same two turntable set-up of disco DJs, Campbell used two copies of the same record to elongate the break. This breakbeat DJing, using hard funk and records with Latin percussion, formed the basis of hip hop music.

Where Hip Hop got it’s name  what the kids were now calling hip-hop could be traced back nearly a decade before to a back-to-school party on August 11, 1973. “Well, I chose the name ‘hip-hop’ because of the clichés brothers was using in their rhymes”.

ARTISTS 50 Cent Lil Wayne TI Eminem 2Pac Drake J.Cole Jay Sean

STYLES There were many different types of styles that evolved overtime for example breakdancing and beatboxing. Breaking also called B-boying or breakdancing, is a dynamic style of dance which developed as part of the hip hop culture. Beatboxing is a vocal percussion. It is primarily concerned with the art of creating beats or rhythms using the human mouth. The term beatboxing is derived from the mimicry of the first generation of drum machine.

SOCIAL IMPACTS "Keep in mind when brothas start flexing the verbal skillz, it always reflects what's going on politically, socially, and economical/y." --Musician Davey D This quote by Davey D shows us that behind Hip Hop/Rap songs there is a meaning behind it, whether it would be socially or economically, and that the influence this has on other people as they believed to be speaking the truth. Brothas = Brothers Skillz = skills

IMPORTANT RECORDINGS/ PERFORMANCE/EVENTS OF THE STYLES Nas’s song ‘I can’ was believed to be the song that changed quite a few peoples views of hip hop as he tried creating an influence to the youth in America by using what most people listened to ‘Hip Hop’ and making it inspirational. In this song he talks about how you can be what you want to be in life and that drugs is going to get you no where.

POPULARITY OF HIP HOP Hip Hop now is the most famous genre in the world according to Spotify. The popularity of hip hop music continued through the 2000s. Dr. Dre remained an important figure, and in the year 2000 produced, The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem.

New York City became a veritable laboratory for the creation hip hop.

1990s In 1990, Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet was a significant success with music critics and consumers. It was highly contributory to hip hop's mainstream emergence in 1990, dubbed by Billboard editor Paul Grein as "the year that rap exploded". Hip hop influences also found their way increasingly into mainstream pop during this period mainly the mid-2000s, as the Los Angeles style of the 1990s lost power.
